Closing the Gap between Research and Industry

Workshop on Design, Production and Industrialization of ASICs

Key note speech [M. Pastre]:
"University–Industry synergies: Let’s design innovative products together!"

Abstract: The worlds of University and Industry are very different. While research is the main activity at Universities, companies focus their efforts on the development of stable products. By taking the opportunity to work together, the world of dreams and advanced research where high risks are taken to invent very innovative solutions can link with the real world where reliability, efficiency, and costs are crucial to get and stay on the market. So that his dreams can come true, the University researcher needs to stay in contact with reality. On the other hand, the Industry design engineer needs more time and freedom to dream. To be very successful in innovation, both engineers should work together!

presenter Biography: Marc Pastre received the MSc degree in Computer Science and the PhD in Microelectronics from EPFL in 2000 and 2005 respectively. He is currently lecturer and senior research associate at EPFL, and consultant in microelectronics. Besides his teaching activities in computer science, electronics and microelectronics, he is conducting research in the areas of low-voltage low-power analog and mixed-signal circuits, high-performance sensor interfaces, data converters and CAD tools.
